Calling leads and prospects is without a doubt, the most feared activity in all of the network marketing industry. We talk to friends, family and even strangers on a daily basis, but when it comes to phoning leads, 99% of marketers just can’t/don’t/won’t do it.
Whether it’s fear of rejection, fear of saying the wrong thing, fear of a negative outcome, fear of being talk to in a less than friendly manner, or even fear of being hung up on…nothing stops network marketers in their tracks quite like the humble telephone.
The sad part is however, phoning leads is the #1 money making activity for your business. Without phoning leads and prospects, your business WILL NOT grow…full stop, period, end of story!
Using the internet is nice but nothing connects people or puts more people in your downline, better than a real, personal phone conversation.
Honestly, I hate the phone. Whether it’s making a doctors appointment or ordering a pizza, ever since I was a kid, I was never comfortable using the telephone. I’ve always been more of a face-to-face kind of person.
When I got into the network marketing industry and found out that calling leads has a regular, everyday activity that MUST be done, my heart sank just a bit. I didn’t know if I’d be able to do it.
After pussyfooting around calling leads for more than a year, I finally decided that if I was going to truly make things happen in this industry, I had to do something about this little fear of mine…and the “method” I’ve come up with is what I want to share with you today.
Now this isn’t ground breaking stuff by any stretch of the imagination and it might even sound a little silly, but it works for me, and if you have the same fear as I and almost every body else in the home based business has, it’s worth a shot.
Basically, you have to remind yourself what you’re doing this business for. What is your why? And I mean your REAL why!
Thinking about how much money you want to make is not enough. Money is not emotional enough for you to truly face your fears. Think more personal, more emotional. It has to be deep.
What would it mean to your family if you started really bringing in the doe?
What kind of education could you provide for your kids?
What would life be like if you and your spouse didn’t have to work a dead-end J.O.B any more?
What kind of vacations will you go on?
What type of experiences will you have?
These are all motivating questions that can really amp you up, get you excited and allow you to drive through your fears to the other side where your dreams live.
I personally walk around my house, talking to myself out loud, saying things like, “If you want to take those luxury holidays, you have to call your leads. They’re just normal people and there is nothing to be afraid of. The only people who make money in this industry are the ones who get on the phone. Your family need you to do this, your girlfriend needs to leave her job and if you don’t call these people, that will never happen.”
I have about 10+ planes fly over my house everyday, so I also use them for inspiration, “If you want to be the one on those planes, jet setting all over the world, you need to call these people.”
Like I said, I know it sounds silly but there is something special that happens when you talk to yourself out loud. It’s almost like you are being talked to by a wise, motivational 3rd party source that absolutely wants you to succeed.
After I walk around, occasionally looking out the window and talking to myself for a few minutes, I am inspired, pumped up and ready to go.
That motivation that is driving me forward is fresh in my mind and creates a feeling of “unstoppableness”.
Try it, find those core motivations that you have and use them as steam to power your dreams. You absolutely MUST call leads if you wish to really achieve your major goals in the network marketing industry. Don’t let fear stand in your way.

P.S I know talking to yourself out loud might sound dorky and maybe even a little crazy (I actually heard talking to yourself has a sign of genius), but think about it this way…Would you rather be the cool broke person who doesn’t call leads and thinks talking to yourself out loud is silly, or the rich, lifestyle living dork who talks to them self? I know which one I’d prefer!
P.P.S Just a quick tip…don’t let those international leads get away! I know it can be expensive to make international calls but those people want to hear from you. What I do is use Skype. I put some credit on my Skype account and now I can make international calls for about 3c/minute. Most of my leads are international (I live in Australia), so I use Skype and it works brilliantly.
